Goverment-Based
Information Security Resources
The
Communications Security Establishment (CSE)
is a federal government lead agency that delivers
Information Technology Security (ITS) solutions
to the government of Canada.
The
Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section
("CCIPS") attorney staff consists of about two
dozen lawyers who focus exclusively on the issues
raised by computer and intellectual property
crime. Section attorneys advise federal prosecutors
and law enforcement agents; comment upon and
propose legislation; coordinate international
efforts to combat computer crime; litigate cases;
and train all law enforcement groups. Other
areas of expertise possessed by CCIPS attorneys
include encryption, electronic privacy laws,
search and seizure of computers, e-commerce,
hacker investigations, and intellectual property
crimes.
Computer
Incident Advisory Capability CIAC provides
on-call technical assistance and information
to Department of Energy (DOE) sites faced with
computer security incidents. This central incident
handling capability is one component of all
encompassing service provided to the DOE community.
The other services CIAC provides are: awareness,
training, and education; trend, threat, vulnerability
data collection and analysis; and technology
watch. This comprehensive service is made possible
by a motivated staff with outstanding technical
skills and a customer service orientation.
The
Computer Security Resource Clearinghouse (CSRC)
is designed to collect and disseminate computer
security information and resources to help users,
systems administrators, managers, and security
professionals better protect their data and
systems. A primary goal of the CSRC is to raise
awareness of all computer systems users -- from
novice to expert -- about computer security.
This is perhaps the most important way of improving
information systems security.
Computer
Systems Security and Privacy Advisory Board. Congress
established the CSSPAB as a public advisory
board in the Computer Security Act of 1987.
The Board is composed of twelve members, in
addition to the Chairperson, who are recognized
experts in the fields of computer and telecommunications
systems security and technology
The
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency
(DARPA) is the central research and development
organization for the Department of Defense
(DOD). It manages and directs selected
basic and applied research and development
projects for DOD.
